Imagine wading into a swamp wearing hip boots to photograph Jim Killen, Duck's Unlimited Magazine's International Artist of the Year... Or having "5 minutes" to photograph the very busy CEO of Northwest Airlines for Travel Agent Magazine. No pressure! A few months later I found myself in a cherry picker lift 20 feet above the floor photographing the Mayor of St. Paul, MN, and his entire staff in the brand spanking new History Center.
There is nothing boring or sedate about editorial photograhy. Many of my most exciting photography adventures have been editorial in nature...like standing on top of a NWA 747 photographing the installation of new radar system... or getting the assignment to photograph the building of a real, full size satelite being readied to orbit the earth.
Each editorial assignment was an adventure, but I've also met some highly successful and interesting people along the way. Corporate leaders, architects, top doctors. And, oh by the way... the "5 minutes" I was granted to take NWA CEO John Dasburg's picture for the cover of Travel Agent Magazine, turned into 30 minutes, talking with a very cordial and interesting business leader...and we nailed the photo.
