While living in Minnesota John Michael began a serious study of photography and became a professional photographer in the mid-90s, specializing in editorial, alternative portraiture for models and musicians, and weddings. During that time he worked with several national magazines such as Travel Agent Magazine, photographing the CEO of Northwest Airlines for the cover of their magazine. He also was hired to photograph the prestigious International Artist of the Year for Ducks Unlimited Magazine.

In addition, John Michael supplied photography for Historical Preservation's feature magazine article on Sauk Center, MN, which was Sinclair Lewis' inspiration for the novel 'Main Street'.

Northwest Airlines became a regular client requesting John Michael's photography for their inflight magazine and other internal photography.

John Michael relocated to Arizona in 1997 where he continued to paint and take on photography assignments. His list of photography clients is impressive....Northwest Airlines, America West Airlines, the City of St Paul, Travel Agent Magazine, Arizona Business Magazine, Ducks Unlimited Magazine, National Historical Endowment, Taleisin West, and numerous business leaders, entertainers, public speakers, tons of models and oodles of musicians.
